Foreign Commonwealth Youth games (CYG) Teams `Bond' With Local Students

The Commonwealth Games Association teams visited their partner schools in the city on Wednesday and Thursday as part of the `Bond Forever' school programme. These schools have been associated with the Commonwealth Youth games (CYG).

Praising the sports facility at Balewadi, director of sports from Canada Scott Stevenson, said, "The sporting facility at Balewadi is at par with the best in the world, and you are blessed to have these in your city." Team Canada interacted with the school officials and students of St. Joseph's Convent at Pashan.

The team from Scotland, headed by Jon Doig, the chief executive of Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland discussed the sports and education system in their country and presented a traditional Scottish memento, the Quaich, to Hutchings School at Camp.

The Wales Team visited S.N.B.P. High School at Pimpri and interacted with the school's president, principal and teachers. Chris Jenkins, Director of Commonwealth Games Council of Wales, was pleased to meet the school authorities and students and said he is looking forward to sharing Welsh traditional songs, phrases and recipes with the schools.

Team New Zealand was also in the city and spoke with the authorities of Rewachand Bhojwani Academy.

These teams will establish contact between their partner schools here and with the schools in their country. This initiative will help the students exchange academic and cultural information and further international integrity.

The teams are looking forward to visiting the schools again, this time with their athletes, and are anticipating support from their partner school during the Games.TNN
