World Class Facilities At Shooting Range In Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sport City In Balewadi

After an air-conditioned wrestling centre, the city can now boast of a world class shooting range offering the best of facilities at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sport City in Balewadi. Having being offered world class infrastructural facilities, shooters from the state stand to have the added advantage in their pursuit to garner medals in the ensuing third edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), which gets underway here in October.
The CYG, billed the most prestigious event and the first ever to be hosted in Asia, will provide an avenue for Indian marksmen to display their mettle while brushing shoulders with counterparts from 71 countries. A detailed presentation on the ultramodern facilities available here was made by Hemant Jadhav, the venue manager, at the press club here on Sunday.

![]() Jadhav said, "The ultra-modern sports infrastructure thus being created at Balewadi will be befitting to host world championships in future. Besides, it will also provide the home advantage for Indian shooters to qualify for Olympics and the ranges will be extensively used for the preparation of Indian teams for international competitions as well". The facilities now available at Balewadi match those to be used at the Beijing Olympics. The National Rifle Association of India has nominated Li Hwan Kim of Korea as the technical delegate, Sheila Kanungo as manager for rifle and pistol events and M. Padmanabhan as manager for shotgun events, at the CYG. "With shooting being introduced for the first time in the CYG, Indian shooters including Ruchit Kapadia, Minit Shah, Sailesh Khope, Rushad Damania along with girls like Ayonika Paul, Neha Sapte, Rahi Sarnobat, Tejasvini Mulay, Ruchira Lavand and Shruti Patil are expected to give their best and garner medals for the hosts," Jadhav said. The competition will have nine events for boys and five events for girls. A total of 14 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze medals will be at stake in the three-day competition. As many as 59 technical officials will be officiating during the mega event. Of this, 44 officials will be from India and 15 from other Commonwealth countries. Over and above, 22 sports-specific volunteers will assist. A card of nine events for boys includes 10 m air rifle, 50 m rifle prone, 50 m rifle three positions, 10 m air pistol, 25 m sports pistol, 50 m pistol, trap, double trap and skeet while the girls section will have 10 m air rifle, 50 m rifle prone, 50 m rifle three positions, 10 m air pistol, 25 m air pistol and 25 m sports pistol.
