ThoughtWorks launches Pune centre

ThoughtWorks, a global IT consultancy firm, today announced the opening of its 14,000 sft new facility in Pune. The Pune facility is the company's second development centre in the country. It already has a high-end software delivery and consulting centre in Bangalore.
"We are investing $2.5 million in Pune and the headcount at the centre will be increased to 175 from the current 25," said Roy Singham, founder and chairman, ThoughtWorks. He said the $100-million company believed in building nuclear centres with a capacity of up to 175 people, rather than setting up mega centres. "We are aiming to become a $120-million company by next year, growing at a rate of 20 per cent," he added. The 800 people company is mulling a third centre in India by 2008.
It is also planning an entry into South Africa. "We are a global company that applies offshore model to the most challenging, cutting edge problems for the benefit of the customers," said Dharmarajan Sitaram, managing director, ThoughtWorks India.
The company is a pioneer in adopting new practices and a global leader in the adoption of Agile and Lean practices in IT, Singham said, adding that new technologies like Ruby accounted for 25 per cent of the company's overall revenues.
Besides, 30 per cent of the revenues come from failed software projects, he said.
Agile software delivery is a new style of development that directly addresses the problems of rapid change in today's business environment.
