WORLD HALF MARATHON COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2010 www.cwgdelhi.com Sports men and women from 72 countries are going to descend on India. To cope with the expected influx during this time into Delhi, a lot will happen to Delhi and the country - the economy, infrastructure, amenities, and the quality of life. The proposed budget of Rs 1998 crore will prepare our nation to hold the Olympics 2016. AFRO-ASIAN GAMES www.afroasiangames.org India was second only to China in the medals tally and earned 19 Golds, 32 Silver, and 29 Bronze medals for a total of 80 medals. This is reminiscent of our best ever performance in Asian Games which were held in Busan, and the Indian team won 11 Gold, 12 Silver, and 17 Bronze for a total of 40 medals - second only to China. NATIONAL GAMES In addition to the National Games, National Winter Games habe also been organized at Auli, Shimla, and Gulmarg. The next Games will be held in Assam. The National Games are one of the biggest multi-discipline sports events conducted in the country, and involve the participation of thousands of athletes and officials. Conducting such a massive sports extravaganza calls for tremendous organizational ability, meticulous planning, top class communication systems and above all the ability to tackle emergencies quickly and effectively, cutting through red tape and bureaucratic delays.
In 1980 when Mr. Suresh Kalmadi took over as President of the Maharashtra Athletics Association, he undertook the selection trials for the Marathon team to represent the country at the Moscow Olympics. Mr. Kalmadi drew a plan and discussed the same with the then President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association Mr. Sharad Pawar.
