Congress Corporators Demand Action On Vacant Plot
Section Pune Municipal Corporation Posted on Mon Aug 09, 2004 at 03:23:35 AM EST
Congress corporators Subhash Jagtap and Rashid Shaikh have demanded that action be taken against civic officers who have kept the Dhankawadi truck terminus unused for the last two years. In an official proposal tabled for discussion at the standing committee meeting scheduled on August 10, the duo pointed out that the Dhankawadi truck terminus -- located on a vacant municipal plot near the K.K. Market off Satara road -- was developed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in 2002.
On August 2, 2002, the PMC had floated tenders inviting private transport companies to run the pay and park truck terminus. Accordingly, the PMC had received the highest bid of Rs 5.25 lakh. However, the civic officers rejected the bid, arguing that even the highest bid was too low. The officers then once again called the bids only to receive a bid which was less then Rs 5.25 lakh. "Then, for the third time, the bids were called and, once again, the bids received were less than the initial bid. Hence, for the last two years, the PMC has not rented out the truck terminus," the corporators stated. The duo has demanded that the committee direct municipal chief Nitin Kareer to initiate a probe against the officers.
