Electronic Data Systems To Make India its Research & Development Hub

Electronic Data Systems is planning to make India its global hub for BPO operations by shifting 25 per cent of its total manpower to India. At present EDS employs 1,400 people in Indian in its 4 centres at Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai. The company is expected to announce an addition of 1,000 more people for its new delevery centre. The $20-billion EDS employs around 1,20,000 people globally. The firm is betting on the quality of skills and processes in India and is of the view that facilities here are among the best in the world.
The world's largest software services firm will integrate its offshore delivery business in India by 2005 end. The company will deliver high-end services with complete end-to-end capabilities apart from offering application development and maintenance in the India centre. David M Clementz, EDS worldwide executive VP and head of service delivery business, said that the company expects to have around 20,000 people working in the best shore (read offshore) facilities across 20 countries by the end of 2005. Almost 5,000 of them will be in India, he added.
